What does “Smart TV” mean?
A smart TV may provide many Internet services that regular televisions cannot offer. A Smart TV basically has a computer built in, which gives you loads of Internet enjoyment right on your television. Smart TV’s offer streaming media, apps, Internet browsing, games and, most importantly, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). IPTV is an Internet video standard, but is also used as a type of shorthand for any video streamed via the Internet to your television.
What can I use a smart TV for?
A smart TV is a lot like a computer, however it does lack certain productive functions – such as word processing, email, etc… It will let you watch YouTube, browse the Web, and you can participate in your social networks.
You can also use Skype on your Smart TV. By adding a webcam, you can see family and friends live on your tv.
Apps and Smart TV’s
Smart TV’s have their respective homepages which let you access different functions, and also provide links to their app store. Currently, all apps available on smart TV’s are free, but the manufacturers will more than likely, eventually make paid apps available on their TV’s just as they are now available on mobile devices.
Currently there are apps available for weather forecasts, entertainment, Internet radio and games.
